Dr. Hoang H. Nguyen (Eric Hoang) is a Research Assistant Professor at the UTC Research Institute, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC), beginning August 2025. His current work focuses on federated learning and the development of advanced machine learning solutions to enhance trajectory prediction at traffic intersections using decentralized data sources, while also exploring blockchain security through vulnerability analysis in smart contracts.
With over 15 years of experience in Software Engineering and Graph Mining across both industry and academia, his research interests include Federated Learning, Graph Mining, Machine Learning, Graph Learning, Social Network Analysis, Program Analysis, Software Security, and Blockchain Smart Contracts.
Previously, Dr. Nguyen was a postdoctoral researcher at the Center for Urban Informatics and Progress (CUIP) at UTC from August 2024 to July 2025. From 2020 to 2024, he was a doctoral researcher at the L3S Research Center, Leibniz University Hannover. He also served as a visiting student and later a research associate at the School of Computing and Information Systems, Singapore Management University, from 2016 to 2018. In 2017, he earned his Master of Engineering degree in Computer Science from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HCMUT), Vietnam, and completed his Dr. rer. nat. (equivalent to Ph.D.) in Computer Science at Leibniz University Hannover, Germany, in 2024.
